a belated foto friday…unfortunately it’s all a bit gloomy…

Thoughtful Thursday

I got a badge! :o)

After having to stand for 30 minutes on the train last Friday I thought it made sense to ask at the tfl office about a special badge…I thought I’d have to get a letter from the Doctors but apparently not:

So my early finish from work didn’t end up being an early ‘get home from work’ because the trains were all messed up.  But at least the train wasn’t packed the way it normally is when there are problems on the lines, grateful for small mercies and all that.

However, I am still bleeding.  It isn’t freaking me out like it was to begin with but I can’t help but be nervous.  Only 3 more sleeps until Friday’s scan, not that I am on countdown and clock watching patrol at all obviously!!  I kinda think everything will be fine but then once I do that I remind myself that I need to stay cautious…it reminds me what it is like to date, I’m having that whole ‘I need to protect my heart’ thing going on.

Sunday Summary 2

My mum has been amazing this week.  She has hugged me via text message and phonecall at least twice a day.

I strawberry you!

Painted nails are so much prettier, much keep up the effort.
Can’t remember where but I recently read that LC had said how painted nails pull
an outfit together and can help you ‘get away with’ more casual outfits.
I know she isn’t exactly Ghandi but I think she is bob on in this case.

Brunch on the 29th floor overlooking London = beautiful
And, for the record, I think breakfast might be my favourite meal of the day

the post-winter skin blues

Well when doing December’s mypure order I had one thing in mind…dry, central-heating, freezing temperatures skin.

I think most people’s have to put a little bit of work into their skin over January to get rid of that after-winter grey glow.

So I order the Lovea Argan Oil Cell Renewal Scrub

I was really surprised about how moisturising, as well as exfoliating this is.  It leaves a layer of argan oil on the skin – personally I’m a huge believer in oil rather than cream as a moisturiser but more on that in a few minutes.  The smell was pleasant, it didn’t have a horrible or strong scent.  You would need to use this a couple of times a week, you could probably even use it everyday because it isn’t tooo itchy scratchy.  The only annoying thing is the opening, it isn’t big enough for the scrub particles which is disappointing – makes me feel like the people developing it never actually tried to use the product.  Overall I enjoyed using the product and given you don’t necessarily need to moisturise afterwards it is a great time saver!  Plus at £7.99 it is pretty fairly priced.

And obviously next up we have a moisturiser…Alva Jojoba Oil

I have very dry legs…like itch myself until I bleed dry – it’s not good!  A waxer I used to use whilst living in Coventry (Stacey at Refined Beauty Spa, she is amazing!) explained that moisturiser is like food for your skin and oil is like drink.  My skin seems to go more dehydrated so for me oil has always worked really well.  This oil is rich, you don’t need much and it goes quite a long way as well.  I’m not so keen on the smell but it isn’t strong or lingering so the benefits totally out-weighs any scent.  At £10 I will totally re-buy this, a little goes a very long way!

The results are in…

Incase you haven’t seen the lead up to this post you should probably go and catch-up…first you’ll need to read this and then you’ll need to read this.  Ok, all done?  Up to speed?

My day started like this:

I was told I would get the results this afternoon.

So from 1pm I was pretty anxious…my twitter timeline looked something like this:

And then this….

The very kind Sarah Pluves then sent me this super-kind and helpful advice

And then, having thought I had missed them – I rang at 4.40pm…they closed at 4.30pm, a Doctor rang me.

My count had gone from 2,500 to 3,800 in 43hours.

AWESOME!!!

So Bubba and I are still in the game.  All there is to do now is rest, relax, continue to ask Bubba to hold on because we’d love to meet him in 8months time…re-iterate that we really want him and that we’d be nice parents, we are worth sticking around for…and wait for the scan on the 14th in the hope that it shows us what we want to see.

Prayers, thoughts and postive vibes all extremely gratefully received.

More information about HCG levels through various stages of pregnancy can be found here

An unwanted daytrip

So today we ended up at the Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) are Queen Elizabeth II Hospital.  I wasn’t going to write the detail of this because it is very possibly in the TMI category of posts.  But I won’t be the only person to go through this, you might be reading this because you are in the same situation and then this might be of use to you.  However, a warning about the below – it is true and detailed about lady things.  You’ve been warned!

I went to the loo on Sunday and when I wiped it was a little bit pink.

I phoned NHS direct and then contacted my Doctor’s out of hours service.  They recommended I rest, avoid stretching etc and just go with it.  It was classified as a threatened miscarriage and although many TM’s go to to be a successful pregnancy there are no guarantees.  So we had to sit it out.

Fortunately by mid-afternoon it stopped.  Until Monday afternoon…when I wiped I had what I would class as a light period.  I was totally, 100% freaked!  At this point I have to shout out to my mum and dad, they were awesome and really helped reassure me as I had a mini-breakdown in a Marks and Spencer food court.

The drive home from Coventry was a long, somber one…neither Mark and I knew what to think or say.  It is a horrible thing and the time seemed to go on forever.  But one thing I would say, just being together and loving each other really helped.  It was important to me to not risk shutting each other out.

On Tuesday morning my GP reopened and was able to give me a referral to the EPU.  They then rang me with an appointment.  Just to note different areas handle this process differently, don’t be affraid to take a pincer motion – whilst waiting for the Doctor’s to call me back I phoned the EPU directly to check their process.  At our appointment I had to fill in some forms and then have an ultrasound.  For a tummy scan you need a full bladder, however before 7 weeks there is a chance (especially before 6 weeks) that you will need an internal scan which needs an empty bladder.  From my scan they thought I was 5 weeks (we’ve now worked out that I was 5 weeks + 3 days at that point) and therefore did an internal scan.  They were able to confirm there was a embryotic sac in the right location and seemingly intact tho there was a query over ectopic which meant HCG tests.

HCG is Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, the pregnancy hormone.  This is expected to double every 48-72 hours from the googling I have done.  The plan is then for me to have this test repeated on Thursday.  More on my results on Thursday etc.  The EPU have also arranged for me to have another scan in 10 days time at which point I would be at least 6.5 weeks (I will actually be 6 weeks + 6) at which point if Bubba is still developing correctly and all is well there should be a heartbeat.

The key things I have learnt are:

1) fresh blood is more concerning than brown ‘old’ blood

2) a lack of clots, heavy bleeding and ‘period’ type pain is reassuring

3) pregnancy symptoms can come and go – don’t be alarmed

4) many threatened miscarriages don’t result in a miscarriage

5) don’t be afraid to use the health services available to you and ask, even the stupid, questions

Sunday Summary 1

1.  Monday was girly shopping in Sollihull with my mummy and sister – I bought pretty much nothing but loved mooching with them like the old days.  I really miss home sometimes.

2.  Getting home to our little house and the two furr ball kids, otherwise known as DeeDee and Sam, was lovely.  They seemed pleased to see us and not too annoyed at having abandoned them.

3.  One happy birthday girl – not that we made a fuss much hehe

4.  A new year’s day of xbox kinect with a free flow of nibbles and drinks.  I think it was what we all needed…

5.  Surprising Mark’s parents with a visit yesterday, was great to see their faces.  We cooked them scampi and chips followed by an evening of chit chat!

whats the story morning glory

Welcome 2011

No New Years Resolutions here I’m afraid, they just don’t work for me.  As my sister put it ‘they are only really January resolutions – everyone forgets about them by February anyway’.  However, my 101 in 1001 is well underway, here is how it is looking as I look out onto 2011.

Completed:

1.  Follow the walk with me prayer book through advent December 2010
I didn’t totally stick to this, I did follow the programme some of the time but not 100%.  However, for me I have noticed that I am praying more regularly and with more heart.  This is a part of me that has slightly dulled over the last few years so it feels great for it to be coming back.

90.  Register with a Doctor 31st December 2011
I was really dreading this, I have had some bad experiences with NHS Doctors over the last few years and when I went to pick up the forms (#cough 6 months ago #cough) the receptionist was pretty…off putting?  But I decided to bite the bullet and get it done.  I had a much better experience and have even been for my ‘booking in’ appointment and although she told me I was overweight she wasn’t horrible about it – I really appreciated that.

In Progress:

6.  Try 365 different recipes
1 – Roasted butternut squash and lentil pasties

2 – Goats cheese and red onion tart

3 – Peanut butter

4 – Tomato ketchup

29.  Try 10 new beers
1 – I can’t remember the name but had a Pale Ale at a random pub with Kim and Richard for my birthday

53.  Try 10 new restaurants
1 – The Old Bell in Standstead Montfinchet – Asian Fusion, with Melissa and Mark Was lovely!!!

65.  Finish the sainsbury teabag supply that appears to be neverending

68.  Run a 5k race with Kat
Booked but now postponed for 2012

94.  Follow no diet programme for the entire project

January hot topics:

2.  Read a hundred books without buying any for myself
Struggling with this, would like to at least read one book this month.

6.  Try 365 different recipes
I would like to have a go at making a wholegrain mustard and red onion marmalade

12.  See 10 classic films I’ve never seen (to be defined by Mark)
I need to bully mark into defining the list and then I want to watch at least one of the films…

48.  Take a photo of myself every week for a year

53.  Try 10 new restaurants
Booked to have brunch at Altitude 360 for Mark’s birthday

61.  Clear my credit card and overdraft
Start pulling together items, as I clear through the house, that can be eBayed to raise some funds

65.  Finish the sainsbury teabag supply that appears to be neverending
This one needs a bit of effort everyday…there are alot to get through and the best before date was almost a year ago!!

70.  Have painted fingers and toes for one month

73.  No takeaway drinks for a month
Ok so there is a slight cheat to this, I can use up money I already have on my starbucks cards :o)

76.  Join the local Catholic church
After my prayer experience I really want to do this

91.  Join a dental surgery and have a checkup
Planning to join but I might not have the checkup until slightly later in the year

99.  Detox my wardrobe of anything that either doesn’t fit or doesn’t make me feel good
I feel like we need to have a huge house clear through and I think my dressing room needs to be the first stop!!
