munchie monday: pizza dough

I want to share with you a pizza dough recipe which we tested out with our neighbours a few weekends ago.  Over Christmas Mark and I acquired a couple of pizza stones (he is pretty much a full-on pizza addict) and so it only seemed right to give them a trial run with proper homemade goodness!  I promise this is simple and doesn’t need fancy ingrediants.  Next time you are thinking of phoning dominos think twice – you won’t regret it :o)  To prove how good it is I should say that Mark and I made more pizza the next day…here are a couple of photos of the final pizza goodness – I even made mine into a calzone #proudgrin

The original recipe states it makes two…I think that it only really makes 1.333r  When Mark and I made the pizza’s pictured above I made 1.5 the quantity of dough so here is what I think you should follow for 2 pizzas.

Ingredients

450g strong bread flour (I used white but fancy half brown next time)
1.5 tsp instant yeast
1.5 tsp salt
1.5 tbsp olive oil
300ml warm water

Step 1 Place the dry ingredients together and mix well

Step 2 Make a well and pour in the warm water and olive oil

Step 3 Mix with a wooden spoon until you have a soft, fairly wet dough

Step 4 Turn on a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes

Step 5 If you wish to let it rise (not essential for thin crust) then return to the mixing bowl, cover with a tea towel and leave to rest somewhere warm

You can make a tomato sauce – I just use a jar of shop bought stuff, handy to keep a jar in the cupboard as it covers 2 pizzas.  When you’re ready to use the dough, just split in two, turn on a lightly floured surface and roll out with a rolling pin – don’t forget to keep your rolling pin well doused in flour too.

Enjoy!
